Sunglasses

I believe you, I bought a pair! they are quite good comfy polaroids. I wear polaroids nearly all year outdoors. I saw the tv program showing people paying through the nose for designer shades that were all made at the same place, using the same methods. People are strange, in Greece you can buy fake Raybans for 6 europs, they are a top seller, especialy to the chavs who wear them on top of their head at night in a Taverna:rolleyes:

And not just in Greek tavernas - plenty of expensive stuff in all other "civilised" places.
Dipsticks.................:p

You're not wrong there. A few years ago, a big box turned up in my work warehouse which was delivered in error and contained a load of 'designer' sunglasses frames. According to the paperwork these were genuine frames destined for the official UK importer and whilst checking the paperwork, one of my guys found the invoice copy. These so called 'designer' frames were costing less than USD $10 each!

So if anyone wonders why your average high street is full of opticians, its probably because the mark up is so vast that they only need to sell a couple of frames a week to break even

I have lost too many sunglasses in the past and I have now become a tightwad. I use this which was free about 10 years ago so the only danger of having to pay for new glasses is if I sit on them.

The subject has caused way too many silly arguments on here - so I'll just say don't buy before having tried Maui Jim sunglasses.

I would absolutely second that. My eyes are quite sensitive to sunlight having had Lens replacement therapy and the Maui Jim glasses have been a revelation. They almost feel as if they have some sort of prescription to improve vision.

I've owned loads and loads. Rayban, Randolf, Cebe, Bole, Vuarnet, Boots, Foster Grant and no-brand cheapies by the bucket load. My current fave is Maui Jim. They are ridiculously big and make me look more of a doofus that before, but I don't care. They are a tool. Go for grey polarised wide lenses made from glass and so big that side glare can't get in. Then wear a baseball hat or similar to keep the remaining glare out of the top. Plastic will scratch, so don't get that in an expensive pair. Somehow all of mine end up sat on or nicked so it's a sad article to own - I try not to fall in love with them. Keloptic have the best prices I found, or buy on a visit to the US. Costa are good I believe, though I haven't owned them.
