i've whittled my search down to the two above boats...the fairline is 1983 with twin petrols and the sunseeker is 1980 with twin petrols

originally i was looking at smaller mexico 24 but am going for a longer boat now

they both appear to be in pretty good condition, inside and out and the brokers assure me they have been kept by loving owners

the interior layouts are very similar, as is the cockpit arrangment. the only real difference i can see is the sunseeker has a slightly longer saloon

i'm very impressed with both boats (to look at at least) and think that either would suit my requirements for a cornish cruiser with a nice little turn of speed and the capacity to handle 'a bit of sea'

i will most likely put an offer in on one subject to survey and sea trial from a dilligent suveyor down here

so heres the question...anyone spent a bit of time on these boats that could offer a statement of comparison or contrast? i can find plenty of accolades for the sunfury but not so much info on the offshore 28

what will offer the better seakeeping and which would you think would be the better built?

thanks for reading!

sunseeker will have a narrower beam to waterline length ratio and will go faster softer in any given conditions than the sunfury however both are good boats by reputation

comes down to which you prefer...............

Dom - glad you've decided to go for a bigger boat as I'm sure you'll be happier on the water. (So you won't be towing after all.)

Sadly I have no personal experience of either, but given the choice I'd opt for the heavier of the two - prob the 28. Could cost you more to fuel, but there should be more room in that one for tanks should you opt to lpg it in the future. If that's not a consideration, fair enough. Whichever one feels right for you.

thanks dave and carlton - that reaffirms what i was told by the broker that was infact selling the fairline! which i thought was very honest of him

yep decided on a longer boat, and have the pontoon berth at a local marina sorted. thought that i should spend what i have rather than save a few grand to just see it get frittered away...

well i am hovering by the phone ready to put in my offer on the sunseeker tonight

once christmas is out the way and the survery and sea trials done, that'll be me on the water then!

fingers crossed

what do you know...offer accepted and deposit paid! have spoken to the marine surveyor who will spring into action sometime next week or the week after

just got my quote for insurance, quite affordable and have even managed to get the present owner to leave a bit of petrol in the tank

crikey does this mean i have just bought a boat?

got the sea charts for the local area and the WCCC so have been planning a few passages

i don;t think i can take much more excitement!

Hey! Congrats. I can't remember whether you have "previous", but try to get an instructor on board asap to give you some pointers. Especially important if you're not used to outdrives.

Good for you! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
