Decided to fill the tank with diesel as I was getting a little low and was having some gauge reading issues. Tank gauge reporting 20% then on the day i was filling up it was reporting 35%. Having not moved the boat it couldn’t be the sender but investigating further the tank calibration was amiss. So I removed the sender and did the following: first checked the resistance at the connection of the sender and 3-180oms so concluded that was in tolerance. Back to the mfd and proceed to do an empty and full calibration moved the float to empty position and pressed ok on mfd got the tick in the box moved then to the full position on the float back to mfd this time stated Volvo engineer only. Mmm continude with the calibration and again got the tick in the box for full tank. Put the sender back in the tank. Turned on and now reading 18%. Tank capacity is 375ltrs so my calculations that should be 67.5ltrs remaining in the tank. So, come to fill I ordered just over 300ltrs and now when filling it took ages.each time we tried to add fuel it just frothed up. Had to keep stopping to allow the fuel to settle before continuing. Needless to say the guy filling me up was getting a little p***ed off but we pursued and eventually added 206ltrs this was when it began to discharge from the breather so guessed we were as full as can be. This is when my calculations worried me. The known volume is 375 added 206 to the tank would suggest 169 (45%)in the tank before filling. I would welcome any comments on this as I have had a few issues with the tank and calibrations. Sorry this post is a bit long winded. Any suggestions on why the fuel fill was constantly backing up would be helpful too. Thanks
