Have a friend with a VDO sumlog, speedo/ log working mechanically from a hull mounted propellor. (ie not paddle wheel).

Cable and prop' turn freely but no movement on instrument.

Anyone know where to have the instrument repaired? VDO not interested.

Does it count miles when you turn it? Most likely the cable slips inside a somewhat worn out receptacle. I have also seen the sleeve beeing strechted to a degree that the inner part of the cable doesn't protrude enough to engage.
It's ver likely that the problem is not inside the instrument as it is very simple mechanically, idirecrtly turn a round magnet that with its field pulls along the finger qgainst its spring. And the log counter is run off a simple gear. SOothe other alternative, if it coundts miles but the finger doesn't move is that fingure part is stuck or out of its bearing.

Somewhere in this country is an enthusiastic business venture that has retained large numbers of "Old Model Westerly" parts. Since the centaur & the Konsort both had Sumlogs, you might find one there. Just stand back 7 wait; someone with the info will be along soon.

great this forum, innit?
