Hi,

Probably opening a can of worms here, but can anyone recommend an antifoul available on the European market that will work well also in the Caribbean? I currently use International UNO.

I will be taking my boat out of the water in the spring to apply new antifoul to last the summer but then in the Autumn I will be sailing to the Caribbean, hence the question.

I'm not looking at coppercoat (have read lots of previous posts on this already :-).

Thanks!

You will find that any of the Premium products will work well enough in the Caribbean.
International Micron, Hemple Ocean Performer ect, I do know that all of the Sunsail/Moorings boats had Jotun Non Stop on them and were supposed to be working well as well.
There are some local specialist antifoulings out there as well (may contain Tin).
Dont know if this is still the case in the Caribbean but I do know the whole Sunsail fleet in the UK has Jotun on as well and has been on them for 2-3 years now with fairly good results.
I hear the RNLI are trialing a Jotun antifouling on the new boat with good results, if true maybe someone can help with more info on these.

Ameron ABC3 (ablative) is available worldwide (e.g. Nederland/Caribbean/Oz/NZ).

I applied it (black pigment) in NZ. When I hauled 3 years later in the UK the bottom was clean - only light slime.

Best antifoul I've ever used - the Jotun pro stuff (now recently unavailable to us yachties :ambivalence:) was a decent 2nd choice.

Looking online (see http://www.superyate.com/docs/Productos - MSDS - Fichas Seguridad/en/Ameron/abc3.pdf) I suspect the Ameron stuff is only available to commercial outfits in Europe land.

However, it may be still be available around Trinidad (if & when you get there) so if you ever needed to haul & antifoul around there it could be an option.

Wait till you get out there and use Sea Hawk Island 44. Not for sale in the USA or EC, as it's tin based.
