not all breathable fabric technologies are the same. Many of the non-goretex ones are based on a coating on the fabric. In my experience this does not last well - couple of seasons in my case it delaminated. You can get a spray to restore it, but I'm not convinced it will work well. Goretex is not a coating - costs more, but lasts much better....What are other peoples experience.

To be honest, I'm sure I'll learn the technology as I go - at this point I'm looking for some basic kit to last me a season or two until I decide that I know what I'm doing.

The chap I sailed with last year used to keep a boat in Llangwm, GTuson. Ever come across a boat called 'the perky puffin' ?

Especially when racing, where there are bouts of vigorous exercise followed by periods of inactivity. Under my oilies I wear tops with full length zips down the front, so that I can quickly control the level of insulation.

V good point ref zips, had forgotten we did the same thing - essential.
