Does anyone know where I might find such an item?
I did see a yacht neatly fendered round the bottom edge of its sugar scoop, but cant remember where it was so can't return and ask the owner.
Thanks CJ

The Army boats at Kiel used to each carry a large orange spherical buoy (the kind of thing fishermen use for marking gear, but about two foot diameter) which was stowed hanging from the stern and could be let down onto the water as a fender. It was universally known as "the bollock".

I guess you're looking for something purpose made though?

I'm looking for a permanent fixture.
She suffered some scraping during the storm in May 2011 when she was blown back against the pontoon at Craobh Marina.

I am not exactly sure if this is what you are after...I had the same issue with the s/s stern of my boat being vulnerable when Med mooring,so bought a length of "D" section PVC extrusion which i glued along the "sharp edge" of the stern.
That was 7 years ago and it did the trick.
3metres cost £24 .00

I thought about the very same problem for a while...

.. then I replaced a tatty hard tender with a tubed-Walker Bay.

Sorry not to be of more help.

For proper extrusions google Wilks rubber.

As a short term idea how about pipe insulation foam, it comes to suit 15 or 22mm tubing, split one side, flexible and cheap from DIY places.

It would need something to keep it in place, maybe contact adhesive ? That would be relatively easy to remove afterwards.

Second Wilkes. You should be able to find an extrusion to fit if you have a flange where the deck moulding joins the hull. Have a look at an older Bavaria to see how it is done. If you don't have a flange then it is unlikely you will be able to attach anything permanently without major work.

Sounds like setting up mooring lines in such a way that the boat can't move back far enough to hit the pontoon and then use a fender as suggested is the first thing to do. Alternatively if it is your home berth then a dock fender on the pontoon is the answer.

We back into the finger berth - and to make it easier to get on and off the stern is quite close to the pontoon.
I just tie a fender on the stern so that will hit before the stern does ...
It does help that the boarding ladder is just at the right place to string a fender horizontally and because of the framework it does stay in place.

On my last visit it was obvious that the fender had been in use - so I just tightened the springs slightly to stop it coming quite so far back...

We moor stern to and I use two spherical fenders kept tied together about a meter apart and hanging from each pulpit. I lift them onto the sugar scoop when sailing and kick them off it when preparing to moor. Seems to work fine, even leaving it for months over the Winter or temporarily in a swelly harbour. We also have a thick softish rubber strip over the entire sugar scoop, which I'd like to replace sometime but has clearly had to take the odd scrape before we got the boat.

Thanks for all replies

James that's an interesting link to rotek rubber, thanks.
Did your glued pvc extrusion stay attached ok?

Wilks

Tranona, thanks for that link.
Wilks have a pvc fendering product specifically for the type of sugar scoop that I have, ie one without a flange. I have contacted them for a quote as it is not a stock item, and is subject to a minimum order quantity.
Incidentally the correct web address is www.wilks.co.uk
The address you gave is a firm of solicitors :)
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated

Update

Minimum order quantity from Wilks is 35 x 5 metre lengths.
Now where can I find 34 other like minded souls?

My description of a sharp edge was a bit misleading
I glued it on using "sticks like ****". And it has remained in place for 7 years of use.
There was enough of a flat surface on the edge of the stern to neatly accommodate the extrusion, there was no flange that a different section of extrusion would fit over,so a "D" section was ideal.

There was no minimum order as I said I bought 3 metres.

(Funnily enough ,according to others,it is not a "proper " extrusion....strange how it has worked all this time)
