Sub-£500 racing - no handicaps, no excuses, but no cheating

Ooh! I spotted a very abandoned looking Benedict 4 International 14 the other day, like what I used to sail 25 years ago. Dunno if my knees are up to twin wiring again.

I was thinking the same. ;)

This thread is mostly me being a bit obnoxiously smug about finding an ancient boat which nevertheless can still show her class, so to speak. And all for peanuts.

In spite of very light winds, several times whilst sailing I've felt the Osprey suddenly start to shift, not a screaming plane, but swift & silent without any drama or flap...

...even under my indifferent steering and sheeting, she shows a fabulous long-leggedness which puts a continuous silly grin on my face.

Although I've owned and sailed enough simpler, much slower dinghies to know that I might have spent less time faffing in a smaller design, I also know I won't want another "four-figure boat" - I apologise to owners of dinghies whose Portsmouth Yardstick rating is higher than 999!

This cost less than £500 and I sold it for £450 in 2011, it's quite quick if you can keep it the right way up...
