Stupid question: CRC

Pardon my ignorance - as a rule I never had much of an interest in racing. However, Mrs Yanita & the kids now feel that after 3 years getting to know the boat we're good.
They want me to enter Yanita for a couple of races next year. CRC was mentioned. So here goes: what is it, what is required, where do you get it, etc...???

IRC? Is a handicap you get from the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) Rating Office at Lymington.

Supposed to be a class like IRC, RORC, whatever... but more specifically for cruisers not purposebuilt racers.
Found a few references on sailing.org but nothing UK specific.

Given that CRC seems to be rara avis round these parts, more useful would be to find out what rating system or systems the club or clubs you want to race with use, and then get measured to one or more of those.

BTW, whatever handicap you end up with you will always think it too high, while everybody else will think it is too low.
