Stuffing box

Right, nearly all of those kind enough to reply to my query about replacing my stuffing box with a mechanical seal, said dont! OK, it'll save me money.
So I'm onto "Drip-Free" a US product about which I've downloaded plenty of information (including very helpful US how-to do-it sites), and which apparently is sold by "WestMarine" in the US - where are they in the UK - is it the one in Croydon?
Also, someone recommended "GFO" PTFE packing, which is made by W L Gore and I've found that too - plenty of info', sounds good - anybody know where you can buy it?

West marine are US based only. Mail order. The teflon packing is excellent and should be available from most good chandlers, it's quite common these days.

when you talk about the "drip free" from WM i assume you are talking about the packless shaft sealing system from PYI and distributed by WM these are fitted as standard to all Island packet yachts. you can also get from WM a dripless moldable packing kit, which is like plasticine and moulds around the shaft to give a seal, if i can be of anymore help let me know at keith fareal@batelnet.bs ps the cost inthe catalogue is between$190-229.99 depending on the size of the sterntube
