Beer, anchors, seahorses, or perhaps something entirely different. Any guesses

"At 7pm the team headed out and it wasn't long before it was reported there was some serious fighting going on aboard some boats at South Beach. On arrival it had calmed down but the team remained around to ensure people were going back to their boats safely.

"...then a large jet ski was found balancing on rocks and along with the owners assisted moving it before the incoming tide caused any damage.

"...the team spotted several naked makes swimming at South Beach. The group were monitored and later give safety advice.

"Sadly a further fight started on a boat with the team standing by whilst Police attended. The boats parted company and were monitored back to Poole due to their behaviour."

It was an ordinary night down at Dock Green...

I must say the Coastguard's dry writing style is simply a gem ! ;)

"The patrol then located a cyclist in a ditch , first aid was offered along with a suggestion of leaving the bike and catching the bus. This was declined and the cyclist headed off again this time with his white tshirt on rather than his black jumper.

"This was good advice from the team as 10 minutes later they spotted the male embedded into a hedge. This time the bike was left at scene and the male dropped at the ferry for his and other road users safety. "

I gather from reading around this strange incident that the unstated reason so many boats were in Studland was for a "beer festival".

How do you have a beer festival on boats at anchor? And why?

Well this how I do it:

  • Visit the local beer shop;
  • Buy some beer:
  • Take the beer onboard
  • Sail somewhere
  • Invite some friends on board (you can put up an optional sign saying "Beer Festival")
  • Open the beer and enjoy
Why we do it, because we like beer.

Well, that's hardly a beer festival, is it? Most people would call that having a beer on board but thanks for the advice on how to do it...

To most of us a beer festival is when a pub or other venue organises a large numbers of special beers for people to come and sample.
Studland Bay seems an odd and impractical place to do that, hence the question.
Or wasn't it a beer festival at all but just a mass boozy boat's picnic?

Now that makes sense. I've been to the Bankes Arms beer festival, its fab. I was 'unavoidably detained' there for 2 days a few years ago :)

Reading between the lines here a bit.

Some boat owners from Poole decide to attend Banckes Arms Beer Festival but as a long taxi ride, they decide to take boats round.
Much beer consumed with violence ensuing
Boats head back to Poole where they hopefully got taxis home.

If they weren't fit to drive were they fit ti take their boats back to Poole?

If this incident had been written as a work of fiction say 20 years ago nobody would have taken it seriously - how sad, especially for everyone else around.

Let me guess, the police boat with experienced common sense crew has been swapped for a trendy Rib only seen on sunny Sunday afternoons, or no patrols at all in the 21st Century ?

Chavs in their mobos!!!

I'm torn. Though not in the Natalie Imbruglia (or Ednaswap for the purists) way. A small part of me which independently processes the statistics on my experiences would advise me not to wager against the validity of this assertion but the larger part of me which rails against prejudice demands to know the source of your statement. There's plenty of pugnacious over-privileged alpha males in sailing boats (the stats sub-process considers the girly-boat-fight scenario to be so unlikely it's telling the right-on super-process to STFU on the gender prejudice point)

In the absence of evidence sterotypes provide a useful heuristic.

As a frequent user of Studland I plead guilty to using that stereotype because of my experience of Mobo's charging in and out of the anchorage. Probably not fair to the vast majority of Mobo owners, but that's how individuals survived and the human race progressed.

Notwithstanding any stereotyping (something I don't support) the reported behaviour of those involved is incredibly selfish. It will not take many such incidents for the Authorities to solve the problem by introducing licensing and stringent drink-driving laws for us all.

In order to have your experienced common sense crew with a few years under their belt able to attend with a proper boat you would need...
A. Sufficient crew to man the proper boat 24/7 and a proper place to keep it moored..
B.A proper boat.
C Money to pay for maintainance of said boat and falling fund to replace it every few years.
D Money to pay crew and their pensions.
E Money to pay fpr moorings and insurance and fuel.
Since 1979 folks appear to think that cutting tax is neat idea but then carrying on expecting the stuff that the tax paid for, still be to provided. ?
During a body recovery locally,it took some time for the police rib to arrive. The crew were miles away from the (stored ashore) rib and it took ages to get both in the same place and then drive 20 miles to the incident.
Having called it in, very unpleasant to wait for ages before they finally turned to recover the casualty.
