Went over there last week and was surprised they don’t have strops and pick up buoys. Someone in the marina told me that the centre ring lifts up when hooked to make getting a rope through easier. Is that the case? We are pretty high freeboard and SWMBO isn’t keen on leaning out to get a line through. I know that if all else fails I can pick up alongside. The question is more out of curiosity.

Pick up buoys / strops require a lot of maintenance. I was on a buoy in a harbour a few years back and made a comment about the lack of pick of a pickup buoy / strop to the berthing master, and he said that they have to replace them on a regular basis due to damage.
