Placed here for information, and to help others wanting to respond. It's becoming increasingly clear that the Studland 'advice' from NE is not based on actual study of the Bay, and can be challenged as such, in the way Marlynspyke has done here.

Please feel free to quote from it or to draw on it in your replies if you need to.

We have just 12 days now to get our replies in, and it really is important that we get as many responses from the boating community as we can. So get busy if you havent already done so!

Please come back to us with any queries, though Marlynspyke is off sailing tomorrow, so may not respond straight away!

Well done. Thank you for putting in the effort.
I cannot begin to compete with that or add anything useful except possibly some comment about the lack of safe refuges from Westerly gales other than Studland Bay on the coast between Weymouth and the Solent.

Thanks - but all contributions help, even "I really value the anchorage in Studland Bay" and nothing more would help show that people are interested. It's one thing to make a technical case, but it is important to show that people actually care about it, preferably in good numbers, otherwise the thinking could go well, we may not have much of a case for making it an MCZ with restrictions, but if nobody's bothered, we could get away with it. So please, everybody that can, email or write in, mcz@defra.gsi.gov.uk
or go to https://consult.defra.gov.uk/marine/consultation-on-the-third-tranche-of-marine-conser/

OK. I have completed the survey as best I can but it is a bit confusing to me.

yes they don't make it easy, but we checked, and you can also just email a short response as Marlynspyke suggests above to mcz@defra.gsi.gov.uk.

The important thing is not a lengthy technical submission like Marlynspykes, though that is important if you have the expertise, but more that a large number of us show that we care about Studland, and that it is important as a recreational area. You don't have to go into lengthy explanations unless you want to.

I heard from the RYA this week that their official Response will be taking a very similar line to ours. They will highlight the lack of evidence of anchor damage, the economic cost and importance of sheltered anchorage. In the event of designation they oppose Options 2 and 3 of the DEFRA advice, and only endorse option 1 with the caveat they do not endorse the use of EFMs as they ' do not meet the needs of boaters in UK' at present. RYA has been collecting reports from around UK about EFM trials, and clearly remain unconvinced of their viability in UK waters.

Good to know that they see things as we do!

If you haven't already responded to the Consultation, there is just a week to go. A short email voicing whatever concerns you have is all that is needed, but its important we ALL show we are concerned about the prposals. Numbers matter a great deal at this stage if we are to counter the threat of the weak arguments put up by the Official Advice, and the spin of the likes of Packham and Garrick Maidment trying to take over.

When I emailed DEFRA I also copied to my local MP, Gove as Secretary of state and the local MP, Sir Robert Syms. Sir Robert actually bothered to reply stating that he had had several similar submissions and that there 'does seem to be local opposition to changes in the Harbour and Studland Bay'. Let's hope he voices that opposition.

Good, the more we raise the issue with both DEFRA and our MPs the higher profile it becomes. Anyone in the Poole area, your MP Richard Drax is very supportive of our case, and would like to hear from you. Its well worth copying to him, so that he knows the strength of feeling (which he has a pretty good idea of anyway!)

Thanks all who have responded so far, keep them coming! we have until 20th to get our voices heard.
