The government plan requires carbon capture in the sea bed and that is affected by anchors. It releases the captured carbon.

The problem there though is that while seagrass does capture carbon dioxide, when it dies and gets buried anaerobic bacteria turn it into methane. Methane is around 1000 times more potent a greenhouse gas than CO2 so this is really a huge own goal.
It’s a profitable own goal though since the carbon credits can be sold to large companies who want to offset rather than improve.

Oh no, Haslar/Boatfolk have jumped on the bandwagon using the topic to headline their March newsletter announcing it as "Seagrass Awareness Month".

They say "Traditional anchors have been known to scour the seabed causing damage to existing seagrass habitats" so it's fortunate we're doing our bit by using a Rocna instead of a traditional anchor
