Nice :)
Looks like 'supping' is all the rage now.
Was out fishing off Old Harry on Saturday (catching nothing :ambivalence: )
Sunday anchored up round the the south east side of Brownsea watching the harbour entrance, was like watching Piccadilly Circus around 11am
Total carnage with boats going everywhere, still was fun to watch.

Chapmans Pool is not an easy place to get into with a sailing boat as you have to get the tide just right to sneak through the inshore channel inside the race off St Aldhems. The ledges narrow the entrance and there is a big shallow patch over a rocky ledge in the middle of the pool. It is a long way if you go outside the race. These constraints mean there are a limited number of days when it is practical for a day trip by sail - but great if you do make it. Of course less constraining for a MOBO.

agreed - but Sunday was the day :)
light offshore breeze, neap tide, it was beautiful! I know cos we were there (that's us all alone in pic 1! :))

and yes, easier by motor boat, it's rotten luck that the right days to be there make it a long slow putt putt round by sail boat (first motor boat year for us, so we're still amazed at how easily we reach places now!

We had a day like that about 35 years ago. Had my daughters and their friend on board. My elder daughter then about 13 was a very nervous swimmer, whereas the others were straight in and swam ashore. The nervous one need to do the swimming bit to get her Queens Guide so I threw her in. She shouted "I can't swim!" The reply was "Better not stop what you are doing then or you will drown". Followed her ashore in the dinghy.

Took another year in the pool to actually get her certificate and badge!

Weymouth Bay is light on activity, maybe because of St. Albans Head. There is a lot to see, Weymouth is fab and Portland definitely worth a visit. Further round the SW Lyme Bay really is quiet, it makes Weymouth Bay look busy!
We've done them both fairly well so have summered the boat in Haslar where the activity in Portsmouth harbour plus the close by attractions offers a great deal of interesting trips.
The Solent does have the venues and energy if not the Jurassic scenery.

That's interesting. Having previously kept a boat in Poole for ten years ( and now approaching the end of a 2 year sabbatical), i am planning to return to boating - and keep it in Weymouth. I have visited many times from Poole but always seemed to end up bouncing past St Albans Head and the the other headlands on either the outbound or return voyage.
In future i will be able to visit Lulworth Cove without having to face any headlands, and will also be 30NM closer to Brixham / Torquay.
