First off, apologies for me posting a motorbike question here but, the Biking forums have given littlke help and I know there are some very clever people on this forum.

While changing the exhaust pipes on my motorbike I managed to sheer off one of the manifold studs level with the block.

I have tried drilling it out but have had only partial success. Stud extractors could not budge it and all I have managed to do it make a bad situation worse.

I now have a hold about 1/4" deep where I have managed to get a little bit of threads tapped in.

I can tighten the stud about 50% finger tight before it pops the threads.

What I need is some fancy glue that will bond the stud into the block. Any suggestions.

It needs to take the heat generated by a modern water-cooled sportsbike though.

Help, please..... I feel such a twit.

Cheers

Wayne

Best bet is to find an engineeering shop which has a spark errosion machine and get the rest of the stud taken out. Essentially the machine erodes away the offending stud with a spark.

Agree with David. Then once you have cleared the old stud buy a new helicoil which will allow you to bring your slightly gashed / widened hole back to the right size.

Should be no need to use loctite which is the normal for threads, which prolly will be insufficient as it goes soft when heated! ( We use a heat gun to remove loctited screws ).

Hope this helps,
