stud chain connector

I am renewing my fore and aft mooring and have been given some stud link chain about 20mm dia . I shall have to join a couple of sections to get the length I need, what is the best method of joining two sections of chain as a shackle will not fit through the hole in the chain .

The studs in stud-link chain are not normally welded to the rest of the link, and are easily removed with a hacksaw.
