What was his name ?![]()
Leave the Thames and you will simply fall of the edge of the world.
Unfortunately, its actually rather worse than that - if you turn right as you get to the end you finish up on the ………….. Medway !
Yes, remember those days too. DuoProp was the worst, the larger prop always caught it, the smaller one i never had to change or repair.
Now, with shafts and 24" props, would just dredge a route out.
As somebody said above, if you only moor where you can allow for a 1m drop overnight, there isn't anywhere to moor. It's a piece of guff to protect themselves. The EA take our money to navigate the river, it's up to them to make sure the levels don't wildly fluctuate as per their own level information (& how soon before they think it's best not to publicise that information if there's a chance it will be used against them?).

That change was discussed and agreed with user group representatives including the main boating groups.5. Managing water levels
We manage water levels to balance the many uses of the river, including boating, retaining enough for water companies to extract, managing flood risk and ensuring conservation sites, fisheries and water quality are protected. We measure water levels at lock sites and monitor them 24/7.
We operate the weirs and other structures to provide the best conditions possible for all uses of the river. Our ability to control water levels may change in flood or drought conditions.
In general, I think they do a pretty good job of managing river levels. The sort of incident that appears to have been experienced at Windsor last weekend is pretty rare.
The laid down compliance targets for levels was between -3" and +6" around target head level at each lock but this was changed last year to the general statement that now appears in the Customer Charter:

I am seeking an explanation regarding the particular event that kicked this off.
Sounds like a fudge, by taking out specific targets of levels, they are allowing themselves to pretty much keep any level they like?

Thats just silly![]()
Then I suggest you raise this with your representatives who agreed to the change.Fail to see how anyone would have agreed to letting them off the hook on something as important as maintaining level. Thats the most basic measure of the service they are providing.
OG would profusely and grovellingly like to retract everything rude he has ever said about Thames boaters in general .
This has nothing to do whatsoever with the fact he has just bin informed that a whole bunch of Windsorites are coming round and may be buying rounds of drinks in our very reasonably priced bar !
Luckily for you I can't go on the trip :-(
