they were made in Spain
distributed by Fairways Marine ( i think ) after ST stopped selling them
Age 25 yrs ish

I thought that the entire Sole range, as marketed by Fairways was Spanish, but based on Mitsubishi.

First imported by Stuart Turner.
i dont think Mitsubishi could make such a simple engine

Yes, the 9 is a single and pre-dates the Mitsubishi engines. As said sold initially as the Stuart Sole - seem to remember a 12 on offer as well. Quite poular with "traditional" boats such as Crabbers and Tamarisk but also found themselves used as replacements for P55s

The Sole range of engines are now imported by Engines Plus - 01453 547273
I bought a new Sole engine this time last year and found the guys at Engines Plus extremely
helpful. Highly recommended.

I suspect that the 9 hp was based on a Hatz design, as was the old BMW 9/12 . The latter only appeal to dedicated 'types'.

the original ST/ Sole 9 hp was more akin to a Sabb in design ( a great heavy lump )

I don´t think it is too modern. This engine was marinised by Solediesel around the seventies.
