Struggling to find insurance for transat & Caribbean season in 1979 ketch

This is about hull insurance, which handily normally includes your dinghy and outboard (which is important in the Caribe). It was however the same story here.

1977 Prout Snowgoose valued at less than £50,000 - that is just the market rate, it has nothing to do with the condition of the boat as someone seemed to suggest above.

I was insured with Y Yacht, when it came time to renew they would not insure for any of the Portuguese or Spanish islands, and would not insure across the Atlantic. They would consider again in Caribbean, but only after a full survey, and a rigging survey (the rigging was/is brand new).

Pants will not offer hull insurance outside of Europe full stop. GWJ don't cover the Caribbean. Many others either would not insure about over 30 something years, and other would not insure below £100,000.

As a result it had to be 3rd party only and take a risk.

If you're valuing the vessel so lowly, there might be an assumption that it's not of a type or condition that's suitable for the voyage you're planning. Any well found boat that is about to set off for the Atlantic and Caribbean is worth more than a tiny bit...
She made it around her previous circumnavigation, which is more than can be said for most boats out there ;)

I heard murmurings that Pants was pulling out of the Caribbean market altogether so I wrote and asked. This is their reply...

We continue to offer cover, in accordance with the current underwriting guidelines, for vessels sailing in the Caribbean. Underwriting guidelines do change periodically. However, we are not aware of any changes in the pipeline. You will be notified in good time should any changes affect you directly.

The only change that has affected Caribbean cover in the last few years is the Named Tropical Storm Exclusion clause. We do not include cover for loss/damage caused by named tropical storms in the Caribbean during the hurricane season, as noted on the Named Tropical Storm Exclusion clause on your Hull policy schedule. This exclusion was noted at renewal in 2019. Cover for named tropical storms is available as an additional cover and carries an increased annual premium of around 50% of the annual Hull premium.

Our fully comprehensive cover (including hull) has just been renewed for a further year. Our boat is a 1969 Nicholson 38.

As above, so far I have failed to get a quote from:
GJW
Pantaneus
Towergate
Topsail
MS amlin
Merciamarine
Bishop Skinner
Yachting24 (Pantaneus)
Offshore Risk Management - aren't regulated by the FCA, so I'm not keen

I am waiting to hear from:
Yachtmaster

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am very happy with Y Yacht Insurance
