This is about hull insurance, which handily normally includes your dinghy and outboard (which is important in the Caribe). It was however the same story here.
1977 Prout Snowgoose valued at less than £50,000 - that is just the market rate, it has nothing to do with the condition of the boat as someone seemed to suggest above.
I was insured with Y Yacht, when it came time to renew they would not insure for any of the Portuguese or Spanish islands, and would not insure across the Atlantic. They would consider again in Caribbean, but only after a full survey, and a rigging survey (the rigging was/is brand new).
Pants will not offer hull insurance outside of Europe full stop. GWJ don't cover the Caribbean. Many others either would not insure about over 30 something years, and other would not insure below £100,000.
As a result it had to be 3rd party only and take a risk.
