Strong satellite signal but no TV channels found?

I've also got an idiots guide to setup intelsat 907 specifically on the icecrypt if it helps.

Thanks Kev but my sat receiver can't see that satellite here. Anyone know if that satellite should be visible in SoF?

A few years ago, I tried to use a Slingbox solution over WiFi and found that it was virtually impossible - "clunky" wasn't the word I'd have used.
No problem using mine and I'm a techno idiot. Its just the connection dropping out which determines how useful it is

Rather than drift this thread, I will create a new thread with my internet TV solutions for boats in the Med.
Yes v good idea

I also have a Yacht Router
...
This has been one of my most useless boat purchases of all time so any advice on wi fi routers would be greatly appreciated
Weird, I also had a look at that thing, because some of its specs are actually interesting on paper, like the possibility to connect to either a local wifi or a 4G network.
I ruled it out only because of its ridiculous price (particularly vs. home routers), but if and when you would decide to chunk it overboard, I might be interested to see if I could get any use out of it... :)

For non-boat specific 4G wifi routers, in my lake home I use an Asus N12.
Pretty unexpensive (120 Eur or so, IIRC), but works very well.
A friend of mine swears that the TP-Link MR6400 is equally good, and even cheaper.

Thanks Jimmy. 5 mins using the Slingbox on your Free Wifi would tell me everything I need to know. Where do you buy it and what are you buying, a SIM card or mobile router + SIM card?

You buy the sim card for 30 euro including 1 month/50GB, and can continue it for 20 euro per month/50GB

You'll need a 4G router, I bought this one, but maybe you could use your yacht router

You buy the SIM from a machine in a Tabac on the outskirts of Antibes, the address is Mag Presse, 88 ROUTE DE SAINT JEAN. (I haven't actually been there as someone else has always bought it for me) You can check other locations here: https://mobile.free.fr/couverture/borne_interactive.htmlu

Mike, if you're still in PV today then just take a walk round to Vega and help yourself - give me a call for details (I'm back in Bton otherwise I'd drop it round to you).

Kind of you Jimmy but I probably wont be back on the boat now until after Xmas and I'll just buy a Free card then

Mike,

If it's bbc you're after it's still available on intelsat 907 @ 27.5 West, I use this on the costa del sol and think is available in most parts of the med. You'll need a satbox that can decrypt BISS, Icecrypt do one for about £60. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/icecrypt-s1600hdcci-hd-satellite-receiver-with-hdmi-and-usb-pvr-function-n00ce

You'll need to input an encryption key which is readily available on the internet, the key is changed occasionally but it's been at least 18 months since the last change. Not strictly legal as it's the bbc's backup satellite to their land based transmitters.

From memory you get bbc1, bbc2, bbc4, ch4 itv1, itv2 maybe, cbbc and cbeebies.

If you are interested I'll dig out a link to a web page with a profile already setup and the stations tuned so you just download to a usb stick and copy it to the box.

EDIT: here's the link http://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?169911-27-5-west-guide

Your information over the years has been good.
However, I think you use a domestic fixed satellite system.
AFAIK, boat satellite systems need to see both a horizontal and a vertical transponder to track the satellite.
The problem that I had was that Intelsat 907 only transmits to Europe using one transponder.
I looked it up in Lyngsat but it seems that they only have one transponder (the BBC one) pointing this way.
I did try but I couldn't get my system to lock on.

I even got my old 800mm domestic dish on a tripod out using a good quality satellite tuning box - I got a signal but it wasn't strong enough.
Maybe because the dish was on the pontoon.
I gave up but if you have any ideas, I would be interested.

You're right, mines fixed on a roof. Not sure how boat sats deal with LNB skew but on 907 the LNB is opposite to where it would be for astra 2e @ 29 deg clockwise. Also the symbol rate for 907 is high, above what standard sat boxes can handle.

Just read that ch5 HD has been added to 907. Was in Spain last week, if I'd known I'd have tried adding it.

I did buy one of those cheap boxes (can't remember the name - the ones that can be patched) to test it out.
No joy though.
