Hi

I have a nice, old waterproof bag where part of the outside, that attaches the straps has come away.

Can someone recommend a strong semi-flexible adhesive for waterproof nylon or shoes to reglue it? I also need to fix some otherwise nearly new shoes where the sole has parted company from the rest of the shoe.

Is that bag made of hypalon, like the Avon inflatables?

If so, polymarine sell a 2 part flexible waterproof adhesive (or they used to) - not sure on price but the tin was quite large (300ml or so at a guess) and more than I needed for boat.

Came in handy when I used it on neck and wrist seals of a dry suit once. I then used it on friends’ suits because it would have been a shame if it went ‘off’ in the tin.
Wrist and neck seals were quite easy to obtain from somewhere (I know you didn’t ask about that - waffling away I am)

Polymarine also sell a tube of one part glue (does that mean it is not as good? I don’t know)

More usefully (if you have read this far) I repaired a pair of walking boots 🥾 where the rubber sole had come away from the leather upper in a major manner and I fixed it with cheap as chips PU40 or was it PU20?

Toolstation or screwfix

I would guess a thin smear of this would fix the strap (and it comes in black)

Polymarine only seem to sell the 2 part at £19odd, or a smaller tube than I remember for £6 odd

Gone up in price:

Puraflex 40 PU Sealant & Adhesive

I am losing the plot - I cannot find PU20 only PU40 - it is worrying when I forget stuff like this.

Hope you find a good fix- if possible perhaps report back and we may learn something (if I don’t forget it the next week)😊

After a google... pu20, but not as I remember- I could have sworn I bought pu 40 and pu20 from toolstation to compare (when it was about £3 a tube

I was interested to re-learn about low modulus etc.

Pasted from web:

Adhesive with a high modulus means that the adhesive will dry very stiff and rigid. Low modulus adhesive means that it will dry more flexible. High modulus adhesive will have a high level of resistance to being stretched vs low modulus adhesive which will have low resistance.

I have used the Aquaseal FD (aka Aquasure FD) repair adhesive to repair a small tear in an air mattress. Worked great in this application, leaving clear, flexible patch on the surface.

They also seem to have a shoe repair adhesive (SR), but of that I have no experience.
