Stripping and reapplying varnish to a tiller

There are lots of videos on the Internet re. use of cabinet scrapers. That's how I learned how to use and sharpen one. Curiously, in one video the man is adamant that you need to finish off with a light sanding of the workpiece whereas most sat no sanding. In that same video the man sharpens using the file only - no subsequent burnishing.

I was taught to sharpen the cabinet scraper using an oilstone.

The burnisher is used to create the 'hook' which turns the tool from just a sharp implement to a dedicated and efficient scraper.

Vertias do a holder which bends the scraper to the required angle - although I made my own holder. Much easier on the thumbs, ten minutes without the holder and you know about it.
