Stripped thread in heat exchanger...ideas?

A valid point Fergie!

Just spoken to a family member with all the kit, and we're going to helicoil it this afternoon.

So assuming that works, it's all down to whether I re-assemble with the old gaskets or not. Not ideal I know, however on the basis that...

a)the big concern (stripped thread) will be fixed, and worst thing that might be leaking is a teeny bit of exhaust gas
b)I'll go back in and change them in the new year
c)our New Year trip would be on

...I'm very tempted!

Thanks again for all the advice and the PMs offering help!

Hooray for the Helicoil!

Heat exchanger all sorted and re-assembled. never used helicoils before...seriously impressed! I used the old heat exchanger gaskets but there is no sign of cracking, lack of suppleness or flatting...in fact I did have one new one to compare them to and there was no difference whatsoever.

I have some super duper 300 degree gasket stuff, so I am going to attempt to rebuild using that. So with a bit of luck, game on!

Thanks again for opinions/assistance.
