So I have an issue with the crane on my swim platform. It works brillaintly, apart from recovery.
Because we have a RIB which is the perfect size for the boat (or as Mrs B likes to say, to f**king big), with seats and consul the crane struggles to get enough height to lift it clear of the platform.
By lowering the chocks and making strops uo we get enough lift, but the crane has to be attached very close to the seats. Any slack in the lifting strops and it doesn't have enough height - its that marginal.
So in any kind of sea, the dinghy moving up and down by just a few inches makes it impossible and actually likely some poor sod (me) is going to get their hand smashed at some point.
What we need is a strong (300kg+ breaking strength) strap or wire that we can attache and then shorten as the crane lowers. The thing is there needs to be an easy way of locking it short so when the crane lifts it brings the rib with it.
We then need to be able to easily free it off when we launch to detach the crane, again without endangering hands.
The crane is not by the way a clever crane, it is a boom with a fixed mounting point that goes left/right up/down but does not extend/lower a cable or anything clever
