Re: Living costs

Thanks Peter. Heard this mentioned before, so seems to come well recommended. Quick e-trip to Amazon seems in order. Will have to leave lying around in hope that SWMBO picks up and reads
Maybe a post to Liveaboards forum may give some additional insight

Re: PS

Great. I'll have to visit some of these now to get a better feel. Haven't been on many yachts of this size so a bit of hands on learning seems to be next step.

Re: vaguly sailing

I charter sailyboats already. Going to caribbean again at xmas. 40 footer is really not very hard to sail, and "easier" than powerboats in the sense that imminnent lifethreatening danger lurks all the time in a powerboat (hitting floating things) not so on a sailboat. Ok ok, so I am very good at getting the sailboat to go at maximum super dooper speed with perfickly trimmed sails, but no rush i suppose if going for months.

Bet you could live okishly on 20grand a year. But staying in marinas, flying back a lot and eating out so on will hoik this up v smartish.

If she has even mentioned the subject non-negatively - then she's in, imho.

Re: £20k

Think I'd better revise that upwards. Always things you don't figure in. Forgot about flights home etc. She likes her creature comforts, so restaurant treats a must, and may need to do much enticing with promises of 5 star hotels and associated luxuries to keep her going at end of long passage <s> This was always going to be the tricky bit!

Re: vaguly sailing

Not so sure that lack of negatives make a positive. She's an accountant, and persuading her that this sort of money is a sound investement is going to be a hard sell. She has her own career, and has done an MBA and is looking for the payback on that. Add that to the fact that she's only done a few trips on a smallish powerboat so far (coped well with heavy conditions that I consider 'fun' though), and no sailing so far.

Ain't going to be easy!

It sounds like you have a woman that could keep you in certain style if she stayed working , you moved to the med and had a great reunion every couple of weeks or so. Then again------? ;-)

Re: vaguly sailing

I knew I'd receive some top quality advice if I asked here!

If you don't mind though, when I put this option to her, I'll preface it with, "this was a suggestion from chippie, and you can PM him on the forum"!! ;-)
