I've done it before several times, but the worry and stress never seems to get any less... talking about crane out.

It's not just the lift, getting it on the stands is tricky - the maintenance berth at our harbour is not level by any stretch of the imagination.

Sitting at home now with a glass of vino and a stress headache, don't know why I worry so much.

Does lifting out affect anyone else the same way or am I just sad and simple.. no need to answer that..

Yep - my sphincter twitches like crazy every time my boat's in the slings. I can't help thinking...'What if one of them there strops breaks?'.

Gary - thanks for putting my mind at rest.

I've done it quite a few times and am finally relaxed about it. Ref the second video in Gary's post, the slings do need to be lashed to the boat cleats so the boat cannot slide, and every time my boats have been craned the crane operators have done that, phew. In Gary's 3rd video they are using 2 seaprate cranes and for some reason the 2 crane operators got out of synch...

I really dont know what you're fretting about to be honest :-)
Geez, shocking video, your last one!
A proper 4 slings crane like the one below is just the ticket, for 50'+ boats.
And still makes me a bit nervous anyway!...

I can't get the video to play!
You're not the first to tell me that, when posting a clip on Photobucket.
It's a rather common FLV (Adobe Flash Video) format, though.
You might not have it installed on your pc, but I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't any other problem with this provider...
I just re-uploaded it, let me know if it works also at your end this time.
Anyway, in this case the clip doesn't show more than the pic alone, I just used that 'cause it was already in my Photobucket files.

Mapis

FYI the screen goes black and 3 random pics show of other crane images. You can briefly hear the noise of machinery in the background.

I still get the point about the double sling though ;)

I used to drive cranes for a living back in the 60s and 70s, two of those years was on a lorry mounted crane and I can tell you I worry when my boat gets lifted out. I had to sit class's on all the different lifting methods and only ten were we allowed to carry out that type of lift and the company would send along an instructor to supervise the lift. I sometimes wonder how the boatyard operators have bean trained when I watch them lifting and the abuse they give the equipment, when tasked the answer is this is ''the way we always do it'

When they lift my boat they do it my way, the properway and I was glad to see one of the other posters boats pictured being stroped and lifted properly.
