Difficult to see from the piccies, but it looks like a Mayland Fisherman 16. The max recommended engine size when the boat was new would have been 40hp. Considering the boat has got to be at least 30 years old, I dont think I would risk putting a 60hp outboard on it.

If you decide to go ahead you may have to build up both the hull sides and the transom, upgrade the steering etc. There could be other problems associated with the extra speed, fixtures and fittings that were fine at 20kts might start to break or become loose (Seats, Doors, Screen etc etc) at 30+kts.
 
Maylands were never built for that kind of power, and as for you Moonraker putting a 135 on a Norman 20 - did the transom arrive before the boat? Norman 20's were rated for 100hp.

Sounds like you like a life of uncertainty.

Kawasaki has the best idea, sell the Mayland - they never were that good anyway, get a Norman and stick the Merc on that (so long as it's a long shaft) and you'll have a usable combination.
 
You could try ringing Mayland on 01621869944 and asking them.

But, just looking at the boat I would say no.

I think your insurance company would have a lot to say if you had to make a claim, or was involved in a claim.

how does anybody build a performance boat without pushing it to the limit's
norman's as far as i can remember were buit 100hp inboard - 135hp outboard..
and they use to race them!
like i say 16foot fletcher rated @150hp i had a 235hp outboard onit for 9yrs
no prob.winner wildcat 5.7lv8 tuned 340hp boat rated 170hp..
you dont try u never no what the boat will handle..

good job mr branson did'nt listen to you lot!!

Racing insurance?

Just had a look at my policy and it states that I cannot modify or use the boat, including power, beyond the plate specification.

I assume that also refers to the number of people I can carry.
 
My pal has a Mayland that im pretty sure yours is, hes got a 25 horse engine that pushes it along very well. By putting a larger engine on that you are suggesting the weight alone will pull the stern down, and when under way, that is if you give it some stick you could very well find you would be too over powered that could make it very unstable and not easy to control. Worse senario if at sea you could swamp. Its not always a good idea to put a overly powerful engine on a boat not designed for it. Be Lucky.

nope.. not racing insurance.
but is covered for water skiing and such.
maybe this will make a differance.?
the winner i have was swamped at bridlington as the tractor wouldnt pull the boat back out.. insurance payed for a full rebuild no prob's at all, even with
over power engine.

all i'm saying to the op is if he fancy's trying the 60hp .give it a go if it's unstable and too much for the boat take it back off and put the 30 back on.
you never no sometimes until you try...

But I tell ya
A 60 is gonna upset it somewhat.

he could alway's get you to sit up front!!!
 
could alway's adjust throttle stop so he dos'nt get wot,but still benefit from the extra
torque?
that way he could cruse at the speed the 30 would be at wot,
but the 60 would just be ticking over.
