Just got back from visiting my home town of Stranraer (SW Scotland) While I was there I had a look at the brand spanking new marina being built in the auld harbour, is anyone here planning to move in? It looks rather nice.
Personally having lived in the toon for 18 years before escaping to Wales all I can say for Stranraer is that there are a lot of ways to get away from it but I supose that means that it's also easy to get to. Sailing wise it's a great place and I was realy pleased to see a resurgence of sailing at my old sailing club at Wig Bay. I seriously hope it all goes well and Loch Ryan becomes as popular as it deserves.

Marina

The Marina at Stranraer is doing really well with full complement of residents and visitors. We are getting good reports from the visitors re services and the town itself. The loch is beautiful and very sheltered.

It is exposed but only in NNW force 7 and over is it a problem and even then only if you are not well tied up and fendered. Much better for a long stay than portpatrick (which is also a beautiful place to stay)

The marina is oversubscribed; we are thinking of forming a moorings association which would allow much cheaper berthing (although exposed from the NNW to NNE) but reasonably secure. The council have agreed to provide a new slipway which will make it even more attractive as there should be services that will accompany it. Anyone interested?

I can confirm that the marina in Stranraer is very nice - we visited in April last year and enjoyed it. The friendliness of the local sailors, who made us very welcome as we were sitting out some bad weather, was exceptional.

Have been into Stranraer Marine 3 times now over past couple of years. I think it is an excellent facility - will hopefully be even better if the new shoreside facilities are now open. Lesley a real boon!
