Strange yacht names

I like the one on the Clyde with the very Classical sounding name of Batheus. Which is fine.

Particularly when pronounced with a west of Scotland accent.

When Sonatas were popular on the Clyde there was one called 'Wicked Willy'. At one of the Kip based regattas the Sonata moored next to this one got the temporary name 'Ferocious Fanny'. At another regatta a boat called 'First by Farr' had not done very well, so it became 'Last by Miles'.

Posted on a navtex message looking for missing boat FANNY MAGNET! No it wasn't 1st April. Boat was posted missing off the Azores, we saw the message in Gibraltar and the very same boat T boned us in Tobago late one night!

'This way up" bit of a temptation to fate that one!
'Dogs Bollocks' small motor cruiser in Vilamoura, Portugal.

Big Bill , we thought most appropriate as it was an expensive new boat but the owner told us it was named after The Blues Brothers charactar!

As a youngster in Lymington, I bought a mean looking black hulled Osprey racing dinghy and very innocently decided to name it 'Black Shadow' /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif and had the name painted very large down the length of both sides of the boat! It was almost a month before anybody actually felt sorry enough for me to tell me why everyone was so amused at the name and used to snigger whenever they saw it!
Ahh, those days of lost innocence! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

For those innocents out there, who like myself have no idea, those were the early days of the 'Durex' company beginning to market strange 'rubbers', one of which was called......... 'Black Shadow'.............. Well? How was I to know?

Actually, a friend and fellow Osprey sailor named his boat, 'Don't Panic!'...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Always thought that was one of the best names out for an all out racing dinghy!

About 20 years ago there was a small Moody (29 I think) called Don't Panic. At the same time the RN had a frigate called HMS Sirius. How I longed to hear a vhf call "Don't Panic, this is Sirius" but I never heard it.

There is an X Class yacht which races regularly at Saltash SC called Xtorsion8
