Strange Drilling Platform by London Eye

Does anyone know what this platform is doing, I have seen it working its way down from Chelsea over the past few months.

Sorry the picture isn't the best quality but the best an iphone can manage.

Thames Water want to install a rainwater / flooding sewage pipe to take storm outflows right to the mouth of the river.

The rig is looking at the geology over a 20 mile stretch of the river bed.

Interesting that Mr Bazalgettes ( his dad was french by the way ) system managed to last so long before needing upgrading,everyone has heard of Brunel (also of french descent) but no one of Joseph Bazalgette,who probably was of more use to society.He also submitted a design for Tower Bridge but we still ended up with that candy floss monstrosity that won the competition.
