Straight Across\'s engine

In an earlier post about the great help I got fom Sheridan Marine, I told of my problems with SA's Nanni diesel. 5.5 years old, 800 hours aprox, a 5 cylinder Nanni/Kubota 62hp. Head came off on Tuesday, the No.1 piston really mangled, and worse the piston bore had three deepo vertical grooves. These engines don't have liners, and very little metal between the cylinder bores. It seems the engine is a write-off, and a new one arrives on Tuesday (cost wasn't too bad, £4500 + VAT for new engine without gearbox). No obvious clue as to why it happened, just very bad luck I guess. I'm told the hire fleet at Datchet have these in, as does the Sheerline aft cockpit boats.

Hopefully up & running again soon!

Bummer - sorry to hear that and one of the few instances of catastrophic engine failure rather than probs with electrics and ancilliaries which more often than not seem to be the norm.

Forlorn hope maybe but any chance you may be able to make the Windsor 'do'?

I should think it will be early October before we get going again, really just want to ensure beginning of next season is not spent sorting issues out.

I've got a little sailing boat on the Blackwater in Essex so I'm off there for a couple of weeks, so not all bad.
