Does anybody know if stowe marine electronics are still on the go?

I have a log thats not working when I spin the paddle wheel.

Also, is there anyway to check if a depth sounder is working when the boat is in the yard?

The wind instrument is allready past saving, both gauge and anemometer are terminally damaged.

If the log can be repaired, and the depth works then I feel its ok to keep them, since they display quite well.

I successfully ran a Stowe depth in a water butt. After spending money on repair it still had to be replaced - in hindsight I should have gone straight for new and saved some money.

Another for replacing.
I had some repairs done and then the other parts started to fail. If they were still made to replace old I would have possibly renewed as required but technology leaps ahead.
Ended up buying raymarine. Other makes are available.

On the log check the small magnet(s) are still present on the paddle wheel.
Stick the depth transducer near your ear, should hear it ticking. Assuming it's switched on of course

Is it possible to test the depth out of the water? So far I've had nothing back from the stowe repairers

Would any sort of magnet that fits in the whole be valid for the job? That is of course if you are only missing the magnet

Stowe has ceased trading. I have Stowe bits of kit which are all still working and in the past used Tinley to do repairs - they were never cheap. If you're still on the hard I'd take the chance to replace now.

Tinley's prices were always expensive so I replaced all Stowe instruments with NASA which are fine for cruising.

My new to me boat , had same symptoms with Stowe log and sounder .tried spinning paddle , head unit read 00. Sounder was clicking but no reading on display. Wanted to confirm engine was up to it under load so booked an early launch. ... To my surprise , both log and sounder worked immediately. Sounder is very accurate also as I dried out with recently installed legs . So don't assume their faulty.
Can't explain why the log didn't read on the hard though.

Anecdotal but I still use the boats original Stowe instruments. But I have replaced 2 units ( Navsounder and Navigator) with used items bought off ebay for £50 (includes other spare bits). And I had Stowe refurbish the masthead wind unit for a lot of £. I have Two sets inside and outside so a lot less hassle this way.

From my experience it is the paddle log and masthead units that need maintaining and care taken with the electrical connections to the display units.

Agree that replacement of gear this old is the sensible route and will be my choice when an unfixable failure happens.

Do new units last this long?
