Looking at the movement of the flexible gas hose then I would say "yes" - constant bending must shorten its life considerably, especially at each end.

I have a Neptune and the "Heath Robinson" arrangement is just a wooden rail across the front with a shoot bolt to lock it to the locker alongside.
 
I've just had a gas inspection by a Corgi and was surprised to find that having the ability to stop gimballing is a requirement of the test.
[Is " gimballing" a real word? Sounds like gyring & gimballing in the wabe]
