Storm - over reaction or not?

certainly is Brighton. But it is not 34ft and looks like it was on a swing mooring that has parted or dragged so I don't think related to the boat story a few days back.. very sad sight... looks like someone's going be be finding out how well their boat is covered by their insurance..

I recall seeing a picture of that boat beached and intact yesterday afternoon.. looked like a Rinker Fiesta Vee.

Don't worry Mike, instead of a sandwich box, I foresaw the fallen tree issues so I packed her off with a couple of chainsaws. So when you hear that distinctive high reving 2 stroke engine you'll know to put the kettle on.
Sorry ljs, our house blew down overnight

Agreed. The Met Office have got the weekend weather very wrong on a couple of weekends recently when I have had to take part in outdoor events and I don't have any confidence that they've got this one right either. Yes they should treat us like adults and assign probabilities to every forecast so that people can make their own interpretation of forecasts based not only on the predicted weather but also the probability of it occurring as predicted
Happy to eat humble pie this morning. Congratulations to the Met Office for getting this one right and in particular forecasting it so far in advance

Roads are really quiet round Brighton this morning. I think the pre-emptive cancellation of all the commuter train services has resulted in everyone taking the day off.

Cheers
Jimmy

Another photo taken here http://www.flickr.com/photos/lomokev/10522920093/ with narrative suggesting the boat was washed up at 5am on Saturday. Begs the question why it wasn't recovered earlier before it got to the sorry state we see it in today. Another photo taken Saturday / Sunday below.. same model of boat I owned prior to purchasing the Sealine S28

Seen that boat on Sky News, such a sorry site to see :( Wouldn't wish it upon anyone. But interesting to see if insurance will pay out given that there was plenty of notice about the storm. Think my own insurance would cover me on a swing mooring until 31st Oct

I'm still not convinced that this is't the boat from the incident I linked to above. Apart from anything else, I'm not aware of any swinging moorings anywhere near Brighton, so it's hard to imagine where it would have broken free from.

Cheers

I don't know the area but had a look on Google Maps - Where on earth could there have been a swing mooring for it to end up there? Only place I can think of (from only looking at the maps) is the marina and no way in heck the boat could be dragged round from there

+1. By the way Jimmy, what are you doing in Brighton on a wet weekend?

I don't think there are any swinging moorings in Brighton Marina, there certainly never used to be any when I was berthed there.

I went down to the boat on Friday morning, came back yesterday morning. Saturday afternoon I was anchored off the Cap d'Antibes with some other forum boats; water still warm enough for swimming, lovely.

Cheers

OK just rub it in why don't you! I was battling the wind and hosing rain in Portishead yesterday afternoon, trying to ensure Rafiki was OK for the storm.

It looks like it had shore power connected (you can see a yellow cable by the helm port window), so maybe it wasn't on a swing mooring.

well spotted, indeed I thought it might be off a swing mooring judging by what was hanging off its bow roller..but obviously not. Perhaps that was put there on Saturday to keep it on the beach?! but why it was not recovered earlier... weird..
