The first named storm of the season seems to be hitting hard now - hope everybody’s boats are safe, afloat and ashore.

Amazingly earlier today all the Calmac ferries seemed to have stopped - but the less seaworthy looking orange Western Ferries on the Clyde are still running. And incredibly the paddle steamer Waverley made a wee trip up to Lochgoilhead and back, docking back in Glasgow at 15:15. Showing the new boats how it is done!

Just got back from Lymington to Southampton.Aborted first attempt at midday as the chop created by wind over tide was lifting my prop sufficiently for me to think i was going to be blown on to the lee shore. second attempt against tide but with an average of 20knots downwind was lovely. Only spotted 2 other yachts out.

Popped down earlier with a pair of binocs... all looks ok. Shes bobbing about a bit but not swinging too much unlike the deep keel Rassy two boats up thats spinning like top, seems odd with such a deep keel. Its always amazed me how different boats swing in a blow.

Just a baby storm then?

November 2023 on the French side of La Manche.

On the Extended Beaufort Scale F16 on the Ile de Batz.

184–200 km/h
115–125 mph
100–108 knots

The highest recorded windspeed was F17 (207 km/h 129 mph) at Pointe du Raz!

If anybody has figures for the English side I would be interested.

We have salt spray on the house windows, more than 2 miles from the sea and not facing the strongest wind direction.
