Storm 10 Rescue - Starburst

...getting swept across the Shingles at low tide would be potentially very bad...

Starburst

I'd just like to clarify some of the debate concerning Starburst. We were on passage from Weymouth to Cowes and on the leg from Anvil Point to North Head when we came across Starburst seemingly on her way to SW Shingles from Poole. She was motoring, no sails in use. She seemed unaware of Coll regs as we were on her starboard side and sailing with just a #4 headsail in 30 to 35 knots and we had to alter course to dip her stern. We did wonder where the hell they were going in such rough seas.

Later we heard her PAN PAN call but could not hear clearly what her problem was. No assistance was requested from yachts in the vicinity and I doubt we could have been any help(Laser 28 with only a 9hp inboard). About the time the lifeboat launched we were between North Head and Hurst and a gust of 40knots went through, we were by then in the shelter of the Island so I would not be surprised if stronger winds were recorded by the Needles.
