I've Google'd but can't find what the "P"signifies.. if anything?

The handles are stiff/jammed, but the bodies of the stopcocks look sound - what's the view, replace with new (DZR), or could I just strip the operating mechanisms and re-assemble???

I don't know what you have there, but I have a siezed exhaust gate-valve, and the knob has corroded away. Even the strongest "grips" can't shift it. It's in an impossible to access position.
Surveyor advised either leaving well alone (as well above waterline and have an "expansion box thingy") or replace. He said no amount of effort will bring it back to life.
Sorry to be of practical little help. Good luck

I has one that looked like that on our galley sink drain. Eventually the whole handle crumbled away in SWMBO's hand and as I failed to find a replacement handle and didn't really want to make one I replaced the whole thing with a DZR ball valve.

Actually, they look OK to me. If you're high and dry, remove them and strip them on the bench (In the warmth!) You'll be able to assess their health once you can see all the bits. You don't say how old they may be (what age is the boat?) but in my experience the older they are, the better the quality, and if you replace them with ball valves you may not get such a long trouble-free period. When you're re-assembling grease well with good quality heavy stuff and I bet they'll see you out.
The exhaust outlet valve mentioned above was doomed to failure from day one due to what was passing through it. Even if the threads weren't seized, the gate seat would be full of coke/crud and never seal out water.

Cheers guys - thanks for the responses...

Like reeac the handles on these are knackered ,so even if I successfully clean and rebuild I'll still have to find new - that alone is enough to make me think I'll buy new stop cocks - at this size they're only a tenner each and DZR as well...

Biljratt - the boat is 60's, but these are not original - I reckon they've been replaced in the last 10 years or so so probably off the shelves of B&Q.. :D

I'll take the opportunity to replace the hoses and double up the clips at the same time..

Vyv will know what the "P" stands for ..... it may even be on his website.

ITYWF DZR valves are marked CR for corrosion resistant.

The whole thing looks like it may be cobbled together from plumbing fittings. It does not look like a proper hose tail to me. More like a compression union and a short length of pipe.

It might be sensible to replace with a ball valve..... but not one with a mild steel handle.
