Just back from visiting family in Ireland and will pottering around this morning noticed our Mariner 4 missing

Considering its 12 ft off the ground on the aft rail was a bit suprised as we handnt left a ladder and it was locked.

Went to the office to report it and the manager said " oh dear yeah we had about 10 stollen over two weekends five or six weeks ago"

Just wonder when or if they where or are going to contact other owners in their marina to ask the to check their boats for missing items.

Am I being a little OTT to expect that boat owners here are now paying top dollar for berths, storage, moorings that some sort of security should be provided in that cost. Those of you that know this place (Fambridge yacht haven) know that its wide open.

That said I do like the place and given the choice between this and other marina developments I would chose this every time, my moan in that over the last 5 year lots of improvements have been made and prices have rapidly caught and passed other places but little of nothing has been done to secure boats and equipment.

The managers parting comment as i left the office "really sorry about that" does not fill me full of confidance for heading off for three months leaving my investment in his care.

What's wrong with these people ? I guess it's complacency, people are in line to get a berth so no shortage of customers. However, I would have thought that to preserve their reputation they would at the very least circulate owners or post a waring notice at the gate. Shameful behaviour !!

Sadly there has been a spate of outboard thefts over the past few months with a couple of the Sailing Clubs I know being hit. Very efficient work too.

I can't comment on Fambridge as it's one place i've not visited yet.

Police activity on the East coast appears to have been stepped up a bit. (I've seen more of the Police RIB recently.

Sorry to hear your outboard got pinched though.

I am sorry about your loss, I had one stolen from my boat on a mooring a few years ago. I don't think I would feel happy leaving one visible on the pushpit of a yacht that was laid up ashore though.

Ladders are usually not hard to find in a boatyard, and in any case the rats may well have brought one with them if they were planning to "do" several boats.

Mine comes home for the winter as does all the other easily removeable gear.

Dont think they really care down at Fambridge. As you say, we pay top money for the beths, but seem to get very little in return - no hot water, never any hand towels, forget security & staff who generally don't want to know.
Think the manager needs a rocket up his arse.
The only thing thats run well, with really nice people is the bar/restaurant.

i think the puppet has no idea of man management & what he does know came from the book Malcolm left behind.
the canteern wasnt the cleanest place & most of the time the beer quality was poor + the sour puss out back but it was a meeting place & a focal point in the marina.
my neighbour had words yesterday with the puppet.quite a few berth not taken nxt yr & many have yet to rtn renewal notices
