The good ship Resolution is heading to the Baltic this summer, where we plan to spend a few weeks exploring the Stockholm archipelago. There will be several Saturday crew changes, presumably the crew will be flying into or out of Stockholm's Arlanda airport. Does anyone have experience of which harbour/marina/anchorage would be most convenient for the boat to be based at during the changeover? The travelling crew obviously need reasonable transport connections. I will need a laundrette and somewhere to provision up for the next week or two. The boat needs a berth big enough for a fat 42 feet overall.

Any one else found the perfect solution?

If you are TS Resolution, then subject to bridges etc;
Arlanda Airport-Arlanda Express-Central Station- Metro, so;

Riddarfjard, maybe even Riddarholmen quays possible-Metro- Slussen line
or Norr or Soder Malarstrands

Vasahamn or the Strandvagen quays-tram on quays connects to Metro at Normalstorg.

Laundrette could be harder- we are more familiar with residental areas round Odenplatz and Hornagatan-they are more common there-Hornagatan uphill from Soder Malarstrand.

Brief crew to watch taxi's- only one proper one-one set price in Centrum, others assume close livery, but dearer.

Will contact our Family there if need more detailed info.

If they are flying from Stanstead that goes to "Stockholm" Skavsta which is quite a way south of Stockholm. Very good facilities at Nykoping marina, and only 10 minutes from the airport, as opposed to 50 minutes or so from Stockholm centre to Arlanda.

We used both and you might as well depending on which part of the archipelago you are in.

I have regularly done crew changes from the Vasahavn in the centre without any problems. Good marina facilities (tuck inside to avoid wash in the daytime), and good public transport links to Arlanda airport. Loads to do in the city, with v good Vasa museum next door, outdoor museum, zoo, fun park and nearby ferries into Old Town.
However, as stated above, do check your airport, as the southerly one is well out of the city, and much better accessed from nearby towns, or various spots on the Gota Canal.
The Swedes are very efficient, and almost all speak perfect English, so a quick visit to any tourist info point will see you quickly sorted out.
If you cannot make it into the centre at some point, quick and efficient fast ferries run out to the main islands in the archipelago, such as Sandhamm.

+1 for Nykoping. Good supplies within easy walking distance too. nice town.

St Anna archipelago, is a nice cruising area and closer to Norrköping/söderköping/Gota kanal area.

There is a good ferry service out of Stockholm centre to the Stockholm Archipelago if you check the route you could get crew to ferry out easily from the centre. Vaxholm is not a bad place to be and on all the ferry routes. Otherwise it can be a long motor into the centre.

I would certainly also vote for Stansted-Stockholm Skavsta (Nyköping) as the marina is in the center of town and Skavsta is a small old converted fighterbase that is very quick and easy to get through with frequent coaches to Nyköping. Nyköping is also still just about in the southern edges of the Stockholm archipelago, so you would not really be leaving the cruising area. The Nyköping approach channel has a minimum depth of 5.4m. Try calling Nyköpings Varv on 0046155 - 21 08 62, there also seems to be another marina even more in the centre, but I could not find the name of it. Just keep in mind that it often is essential to book a long time in advance as the Swedish harbours can be booked out months in advance, especially in the holiday period. Remember that is Sweden everything is run to a schedule, which is why I like the more relaxed English way :-) Still I fondly remember my childhood in the northern Stockholm archipelago as it is beautiful.

And finally do make sure you have some mooring spikes to put into the cliffs of the of the anchorages if needed.
