They recommend Sikaflex 290dc for re caulking a teak deck. Average price £10-15 per tube.

Last night I saw a chap using this stuff. Stixall.

He said he used it on the other side of the deck and it worked great. More flexible that Sikaflex so copes with winter a bit better and from only £3-5 per tube. I saw the finished article and it looked exactly the same as Sikaflex.

What are people's opinions of this?

I have used it as caulking on a couple of new washboards. Cheap, cheerful, sticks well (prime the wood with cyanoacrylic a.k.a. superglue) all in all just as good as the Sikaflex 290dc except and there is always an "except" or "but" it does not sand as well as the Sikaflex 290dc - leaves a dull, rough surface and clogs the sand paper - I solved that one by hand "planing" the seams with a block plane blade (bevel side up) and a final scrape with the blade vertical. Looked great for a couple of seasons until (I presume) the UV got to it. Dug it all out, renewed it with same and gave the boards a couple of coats of varnish. Still looking good but I would not use it for decks - for cosmetic panels (wash boards) OK but not decks unless you want to varnish them.

I've used this stuff for emergency fibreglassing. To close a gap taking in seawater in rough weather, I plastered this stuff on some cotton (actually polyester) cloth, and patted it on in layers just like fibreglass.
Certainly sticks, and seems to do a good job.

Thanks. I'll put my hand in my pocket and get the 290dc then. For the Primer Sika recommends their multi primer at like £30 a go. Any cheaper alternatives?

Suggest you look at SABA, available from Marineware. As already suggested you need the UV resistant caulking for decks. If you are doing a lot of recaulking then buy a sausage gun as it is much cheaper to buy the bigger sausages than the small cartridges. If you buy big enough volume you will get a trade price from Marineware. I have just laid and caulked a complete deck with Saba products.

MMA (methyl methacrylate) dissolved in Acetone (20% to 50%) both available on ebay. The primer is to seal the pores in the teak and bond an loose fibers giving the caulk a good sound surface to bond to.
