I am asthmatic and senstive to certain smells, so maybe it's just me, but does anyone else find the smell of bilgex almost as bad as the smell of stinky bilges?

Maybe i'm just making a mental association between stinky bilge and the smell of bilgex, but it almost makes me heave.

Are there any better smelling products?

I think a while back vyvcox said his son (who used to be involved in charters in Greece) used Pine Toilet Duck to mask the smell of dieselly bilges/engine compartments.

Anyhow, I bought some for just such an occasion and it is really quite effective.

Also use Bilgex and agree with OV that it's probably the best for the job.

I have a dryish bilge with no oil or residue from showers etc. A pint or two of clean sea water probably sits below the pump inlet.

Following a tip on here, dog and cat anti stink spray seems to work well. I spray it onto the vertical parts of the bilge and let it run down, you don't need much and it has little smell. You can get it from Al/dl when they have stock offers. Not much use for heavyweight applications though.

what about auto washing machine powder
sorry but have no experience of smelly bilges, we have a non leaking engine & dust the bilge ( smug smiley)

A little Bio washing liquid keeps both our bilge and loo smell free.

Every time we leave the boat I pump the head dry, put a cupfull of FRESH water in the bowl and add some Bio liquid. A splosh goes into the bilge once in a while too.

Cheap and effective.
