How much do you want to spend?

To make it more interesting, has anyone seen a suitable boat, advertised, anywhere?

.......Westerly Konsort would be my suggestion, lots about from 10 grand.

One reason for selling my last boat was that it was getting to the age where it needed work ( made in 96) and I am no longer up to more than washing and polishing. So my thought was something built post 2000 maybe even post 2010 that wont need work. Price isnt an issue though obviously as low as I can get away with.

This one seems sold, but there were quite a lot sold here when hew so come up fairly frequently. Also similar jeanneau 32 with lift keel yachtworld.co.uk/yacht/2001-beneteau-oceanis-311-7979457/
Thanks. All my boats so far have been british but since our industry shut down effectively at the end of the millenium I need to think furrin! Trouble is I dont know which maker manufactured 30ft boats that could dry out. You have given me 2 - are there more?

Isn't the market for drying out boats a bit of an English/Channel speciality?
So not many options from other markets?

The shortage of suitable boats is not because our industry shut down, it's because people stopped buying such boats new around 25 years ago.
Possibly because all the cheap drying moorings were full up?

People who could afford a new 30ft boat could mostly afford better moorings and wanted to go to places where drying out wasn't required.

It's like me moaning about the cars on the market, because people had such bad taste buying new 10 years ago!

Both Beneteau and Jeanneau had lift keel yachts in the sub 35' market until recently and they sold well in the UK particularly pre 2010. The other French builder with lift keel was Feeling, but their smaller sizes were mostly 1990s and early 2000s.

The Jeanneau 32 was on my short list in 2015, but the price premium (new) for the lift keel was significant and my compromise for my chosen Bavaria was the shallow (1.5m) keel.

If you are prepared to spend the money an old boat can be brought up to nearly new condition so no real need to limit yourself to 2000 or 2010 boats.

I prefer the Sadler 32, but the other popular boat around here is the Westerly Fulmar, bilge keel lots of space.
Is 30’ an absolute max in which case ignore this.

The Fulmar from Newquay used to beat griff quite regularly I seem to remember ?

But Gareth was never really into racing Lisa Marie, he. was a good sport and would enter the racing to make up the numbers, cruising was really his thing especially IOM for the TT. Those were the days when NQ could raise a good leet, as could Aberaeron, I still have a have a cheque from Cardigan Bay Regatta framed on the wall from when I beat the field in my old Invicta.
I think with two competitive crews the Sadler could make life difficult for the Fulmars, besides I’m old fashioned, I like masthead rig.

I did a couple of races with Gareth but as you say he was conservative and enjoyed the cruising and crack. I went to Ireland with him several times and IoM once.
Can't remember the race but it was up to the top of the bay and we ended up in Abersoch in one of the clubs. There was an oldish guy in there who had just won a cup in a dinghy race, I think there was a regatta on. Anyway he seemed to latch on to us and the inevitable question came up to which Gareth answers truthfully and my turn came around and before I could say a word Gareth was in like a shot with oh he's a gynaecologist, top practice, consultant to lots of very important people blah blah blah. Without a moments hesitation the guy who was just short of being bladdered piped in with Oh my wife has some problems there, she has been seeing her doctor for a long time and specialists. She is in the holiday cottage we have not far away do you think you could come and have a look at her. You can imagine that was grist to Gareths mill and I only just got out off it by saying I couldn't she would need to be referred to me. but it didn't end there with Gareth, he was like a dog with a bone. We laughed about it for years. He was a great guy couldn't do enough for you and with a wicked sense of humour.
