One of our powered (ST44) Lewmar winches gearbox has a failed oil seal, and needs to be removed for repair or replacement.

Having taken off the motor, and the four bolts securing the gearbox to the underside of the winch, I expected it to fall off.

However, it will not budge, just turn (with the gear dive shaft). Either I am missing a trick, or after 27 years in situ it is rusted on. The opposing 'port' to the one engaged is rusty, so not made of stainless material?

(The new gearbox that has been supplied does not fit the winch, but does appear compatible with the motor).

Any tips on removal of the gearbox? Access is difficult through a hatch in the cabin headlining, underneath the coaming. Heat is not an option?

Rust dissolver? Looking at it again a puller might help if one will fit..
