Sticking fabric to wood?

I'm lining the channels of my washboard rack, so I need to stick some velour fabric to teak. The shape consists of 12mm wide slots of variable depth, so contact adhesive is not viable. I've tried:

PVA: too easy to peel the fabric off when dry.
Epoxy adhesive: very messy, and too viscous.

Suggestions?

I would use polyurethane wood glue as it is waterproof for washboard channels could get wet. Sikaflex type polyurethane would also do the job and may be less messy than wood glue.

Contact glue such as Evostick can be used without having to let both surfaces dry. Just takes longer to cure. I have use a strong fabric glue for shoe repair but haven't got name in front of me, try a google or ebay search?

If its just lining the channels, why not get some sticky backed Velcro, cut to width and just use the softer loop side.

Although, is a padded rack really necessary? Presumably the channels they fit into in the hatch are not so luxurious.

all purpose building adhesive obtainable from Wickes in tubes, waterproof, white, spreads easily as you do not want lumps & can be placed in corners easily with the thin nozzle
has reasonable grab characteristics but still allows one to slide the item into place & stretch the fabric properly. Sticks to teak whereas a lot of products will not

I wondered about PE wood glue, although it does foam a bit.

OK, the bottom line is that epoxy works best if applied with a non-porous roller, as used for wallpaper or printing ink.

Here is the result, first a mock-up, then the washboard mounts close-up.
