I was wondering if there are any alternatives to the treadmaster stuff....I seem to remember a similar product much cheaper though that you could cut to your desire to stick onto a metal deck...does anyone remember?

Nothing that works as well except for a similar product from Holland which is equally expensive.

Rather gone out of fashion now on the grounds of cost and difficulty in laying - plus after 20 or so years, replacement is a nightmare.

Better to use paint type coatings or Kiwigrip.

I had very slippy hatch covers and flooring in the cockpit which looked nice but were lethal when wet. I stuck this stop slip tape down in stripes now it is much better in the wet.

Not quite the same as treadmaster but quite cheap and good for isolated areas. Still in good condition after 2 years.

I laid TBS sheet material http://www.proboat.co.uk/category.asp?dep=1&cat_id=39 on my cockpit floor around five or six years ago. It is still performing well and does not seem to have lost any of its non-slip properties. The only mistake I made was to buy grey instead of white. With Greek sun on it it becomes incredibly hot, far too much so tomwalk on in bare feet.

That looks just what I need for my slippery cockpit floor. Where did you actually buy it from, if I might ask?

Hi Tom, or alternatively ..

I might give those a go this time, gave the deck a repaint recently and slippery again, think last time it might have been sand mixed with the final coat. Worked anyway, gone for white this time, even the light tan colour before was too hot on the feet.

Got the 2 pack top coat polyurethane from here..

And for the cost conscious...

Go to a skateboard shop and ask for the stuff they use to put on their 'decks' (I believe this is what the young people call a skateboard)

It's sold by the metre for about three quid - it sticks like the stickiest stuff you can imagine and it's very very grippy underfoot.

I have strips of it on the coaming to allow crew a firm footgrip. Works well.

Sorry too keen.... I see the OP probably meant large areas. Suggestion stands, though.

Cheers everyone in the end I went with some beads from SML (the Jotun distributors), they were only £6 or so for 1 kg, so will give them a go...

So she's brilliant white now, one more coat and that'll do her (2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top), still need to paint hull above water so hopefully weather will keep for this weekend to complete this very long task :)
In any case only a few weeks left before we move onboard..scary :)
