How come the man who isunique by being Five Times World Champion Class 1 Powerboater doesn't get recognised in the New Years Honours list.

Perhaps he should have played Rugby whilst being on the water !

You raise a very good point. Trouble is still seen as a minority sport.

I hate to point this out - BUT YOUR BOAT IS MOORED ON A RIVER - I bet if you did a calcualtion of how many hours your boat spends on a RIVER and how many on the SEA and did a percentage calculation, then Kelisha would have a BETTER sea average than SOLITAIRE.

As they say lies, damn lies and stats .......... /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

River boater - pah. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

So tell me again what did this guy do ??? I must have missed it on page 8 of the "Hamble Times".

The main reason is it is seen as a minority sport with very little TV or press coverage, I first met Steve Curtis many years ago when he raced offshore F3, boat was called I think Poco Homes, launched him many times at our local club in Kent that used to host offshore races.

Latest claim to fame is that he is part of the driving force behind the Honda offshore championships

Neal Holmes is another offshore driver that holds many world tittles in his class still not recognised.

Canboria, I think you may be getting yourself a little confused. To the best of my knowledge (some what limited) Curtis didn't ever race in class 111. Poco Homes was a Class 111 2 litre boat raced by Steve Bourne in the 80's, and he was very successful in it. Steve is behind the Honda race series, although his claim of "inventing" the series is some what inacurate, as it was a gent by the name of David Sewell, (editor of Race Boat) who took the proposal to Honda and got the series off the ground.

Neil Holmes has been world champ even more time than Curtis's five,

He needs to raise his profile - he should get married and divorce 2 days later - that seems to work

Yes your are right it was some considerable time ago as you say in the eighties, the memory is somewhat faded probably the name Steve stuck in my mind.

I dont suppose that he might not be interested in a gong anyway. Maybe he's quite happy racing/building boats and doing his shopping in Tesco's of a Friday night without being mobbed
