Sterngland greaser

I have a remote greaser for my sterngland, located in a locker. How often should I turn the handle when motoring and by how much? As I leave the gearbox in neutral when sailing, should I turn it then? Also, what grease should I use to refill it?

My practice was to give it half a turn every hour or so when motoring, then at engine off and end of day.

Ramonol White Grease (Google it) is good.

Now have a Volvo seal so only once per year!
