I paint my (2 bladed folding) prop and shaft and p-bracket with white hard antifouling. It does gradually flake off during the season, but it keeps most growth away. A particular bonus is, from the tender, it is easy to see the white parts underwater and to use the boathook to clear any debris. I have to be careful not to get paint between the sliding faces of the moving parts of the prop.
What primer do you use?
I've had limited success priming bronze prop with epoxy.
Veneziani propellor primer and AF were particularly poor last year! Scuba is the answer but my mooring is too near HM dockyard!
Cheers,
Chris
I have not had much success with anti fouling, used 'prop shield' i think its called (a sort of light red lanolin product which you put on with a paint brush and a hair dryer to keep it flowing) absolutely none left on anywhere, when the boat came out but still barnacles etc, not really sure about it.
If your prop is nice and clean why dont you try buffing it up with metal polish and a buffer on a drill, a lot of people swear by it, wish I had tried before i covered the prop in antifouling.
I'm afraid I didn't use any primer, just cleaned up the shaft with emery tape and the prop and p-bracket with a wire brush, then two coats of hard white antifoul. Perhaps that is why some paint flakes off during the season, especially on the shaft?
